Mr. O’Leary had a 20-year career as a Nuclear Operator and served in the U.S. Navy from 1977-1982.
As a Parkinson’s advocate on the local, state and national level, he frequently attends symposiums, conferences and other educational events. Mr. O'Leary currently volunteers weekly with The Parkinson’s Resources of Oregon. He has served as the Arizona State Co-Coordinator for the Parkinson’s Action Network (PAN), has sat on the Board of Directors for the Parkinson Network of Arizona (PNA), a chapter of the National Parkinson Foundation (NPF) and the Board of Directors for the Arizona chapter of the American Parkinson Disease Association (APDA).
In 2006, Mr. O’Leary received the Parkinson’s Action Network 2006 Louis Fishman Award for excellence in advocacy.
Mr. O’Leary has focused on Parkinson’s research through his participation in numerous studies and has debated stem cell issues. He has given keynote speeches in the Phoenix area and has been a guest lecturer for graduate level Movement Disorder courses at the University of Arizona and Arizona State University.
Mr. O’Leary also serves as a Court Appointed Special Advocate for Children in Clark County Washington.
Not only is he a person with Parkinson’s disease but he is also a care partner to his wife Linda who lives with Parkinson's.
