From Howard: Meeting the Challenge
Thank you – you not only met our original Board of Directors $100,000 Challenge but when we "upped the ante" to $300,000, you met that too! Each and every donation you made will be matched for a total raised of over $600,000. This will help PDF fulfill our New Year's resolution: doing everything within our power to understand why Parkinson's happens, how we can better treat it and how we may more effectively support those who live with the disease.
Challenge #1: Advance Research
In 2014, PDF resolves to fund research that will solve, treat and end Parkinson's. Right now, we are reviewing 200 applications from scientists to our international research grants program and we are accepting new applications for fellowships and career development grants that aim to cultivate future leaders in Parkinson's research and care. In an exciting update on the first PDF Community Choice Research Award, we will soon invite scientists to applying for funding to answer a research question submitted by one of you last October!
Challenge #2: Increase Knowledge
In 2014, PDF resolves to answer your questions about Parkinson's disease and provide the tools that allow you to take charge of PD. We will meet this challenge, whether it is through our toll-free HelpLine, available at (800) 457-6676, our free print materials, our science news or our bi-monthly online seminars. (Remember, the online seminars are now available on DVD for support groups and some health professionals who can apply for continuing education credits.)
Challenge #3: Empower Community
In 2014, PDF resolves to empower people the community – people with Parkinson's, care partners and professionals – to play their unique part in ending Parkinson's. This can mean advocating for research by taking the PAIR online course, finding ways to educate your community during Parkinson's Awareness Month in April or entering our upcoming PD Awareness T-shirt Design contest. There is a way for everyone to get involved.
We are looking forward to working with you in 2014! Please contact us anytime with questions or comments at (800) 457-6676 or email@example.com.
Howard Morgan, M.B.A.
Chair, Board of Directors
