From Linda: Energy at World Parkinson Congress

Have you felt the energy this week? We're in Montreal for the World Parkinson Congress and as one of my colleagues Karen said, the energy is "immense." Hear more from Karen and my other colleagues by following the reports below. Don't forget that you can be a part of the WPC by sharing your PD research idea online by 5:00 PM ET tonight!

The 3rd World Parkinson Congress officially kicked off on Tuesday evening. Here's just a taste of what we're covering on the blog for you:

  • Science: The top scientists are here in Montreal and we're reporting back updates on the therapies in development, new understandings of PD and more.
  • Patient Engagement and Advocacy: I'm here with more than 50 PDF Research Advocates, who were part of PDF's own session on patient engagement in research. The excitement is palpable and growing. In my session yesterday, "How Researchers and People with Parkinson's Can Work Together to Advance Clinical Trials," a researcher from Toronto saw the importance of working with people with Parkinson's and asked where she could find interested patients. On the spot, a person with Parkinson's from Toronto stood up and they traded cards. Thus a working relationship was forged!
  • Quilts, Music and Exhibits: The WPC has so much to offer including the display of the Parkinson's Quilt, a renewal room with yoga and tai chi, a theatre with films by people with PD and hundreds of exhibits including PDF's own booth.
