 Parkinson's Disease Foundation Patient Education Materials for Health ProfessionalsAs part of our mission to educate members of the Parkinson's community, PDF publishes and distributes, free of charge, a growing portfolio of educational materials.  These include the popular booklets, Parkinson’s Q&A and Deep Brain Stimulation for Parkinson’s Disease.  Our newest publication, the Parkinson's Disease Resource List, Second Edition includes over 750 resources around the US.

Professional Training & Continuing Education Credits

PDF is pleased to offer continuing education to professionals to ensure access to the latest in PD research and care. PDF offers continuing education units (CEUs) to a variety professionals through its online PD ExpertBriefings, with help from the American Society on Aging. We also offer an online course for physical therapists, for which CEUs available and online nursing course (no credits available).

ASA logoAs of September 2012, continuing education credits are available for health care professionals who participate in PDF's PD ExpertBriefings - free online seminars presented by leaders in the field - live or within 30 days of the live seminar. CEUs are managed through PDF's sponsorship of the American Society on Aging.

Below is the list of approved Boards. If your state or national board is not listed, please verify with your board or association regarding acceptance of one of the providers listed below before applying for CEUs. If you have a specific board you work with that’s not listed on the CEU application form, please check with them to see if they accept accreditation from one of the providers that is listed; for example the California Board of Registered Nursing covers most states, not just residents of California.

Please complete the online form (sent to you after registration) within 30 days of the live date of each PD web seminar. You can attend the live seminar or take advantage of the recorded seminar to claim your free CEU credit. There is a maximum of one Board selection per person per event. CEUs must be claimed within 30 days of the date of the live event, and the recordings are available for 30 days after each live web seminar. Your CEU credit will be emailed within 30 days of survey submission.

Physical Therapy Course

PDF invites physical therapists to join us for Parkinson’s Disease: A Practical Approach to Evaluation and Treatment for the Physical Therapist, an online course designed by expert physical therapists in the field of Parkinson’s disease to help other physical therapists better understand how to evaluate, treat, and deliver comprehensive care to people living with Parkinson’s. 

This course provides practical, evidence-based knowledge on how to effectively evaluate and treat individuals with Parkinson's. 0.8 CEUs are available. Participants can view each of the four modules (and take the respective tests necessary for credit) separately over the course of a year.

The course is presented by the Parkinson's Disease Foundation in collaboration with American Parkinson Disease Association, American Physical Therapy Association and Visiting Nurse Service of New York. This course is made possible with the support of Kenneth M. and Susan Granat Weil in honor of John and Joan Haine, the Edmond J. Safra Foundation and the American Physical Therapy Association and with in-kind support from Rusk Rehabilitation at NYU Langone Medical Center.

Nursing Course

PDF invites nurses to join more than 9,500 others in taking its online course, Parkinson’s Disease Across the Lifespan: A Roadmap for Nurses.  Designed by nurses for nurses, the online course provides the latest in current treatment and care strategies.  It is free for all participants and will be available online for one full year.  Participants can watch each of the four modules (and take the respective tests necessary for credit) separately throughout the year or all at one time.
