Giving to PDF: How Your Dollars Can Make a Difference

Have you considered making a contribution to the Parkinson's Disease Foundation (PDF), but were not sure how or in what way you wanted to do it? PDF offers several programs for people who want to make a difference in the fight against Parkinson's. Through your generosity, we can continue to fund groundbreaking research and to bring quality services and educational materials to people who live with Parkinson's disease. Whether you decide to contribute $3 a month through our Monthly Giving program, or to make an annual gift, or to sign up for one of our planned giving opportunities, every little bit counts - and we look forward to putting your money to good use!

Giving via the web
Perhaps the simplest and quickest way to donate to PDF is to visit our website, Here you can read about our work and make a gift via our standard online donation form. Through our website, you can also join our Monthly Giving program, which is a cost-effective and convenient way to make a donation. Whatever the size of your gift, you will find monthly giving an easy way to show your support - and to provide needed funds to help the Parkinson's community.

Have you thought of memorializing a loved one or making a gift in the name of someone special? Our website offers the option to make memorial and honor donations. In such cases, a card acknowledging the donation will be sent to the person, or family of the person, in whose name you made a gift.

Supporting PDF through your workplace
Companies large and small support non-profits and help their employees to give in numerous ways. The types of support can range from small one-time donations to the sophisticated workplace giving programs (through payroll deductions) that are often found in large companies. Many companies enable you to make a contribution directly from your paycheck to the charity of your choice.

PDF is a proud member of Community Health Charities (CHC), a federation which enables employees to donate funds to leading charities from the workplace through their payroll. To learn how to designate funds to PDF from your paycheck, visit the human resources or community relations department at your workplace. If you find that your employer is not a CHC partner, call PDF and ask how you can approach the company to join this program.

One more point: if you are a federal government employee and would like to donate through the Combined Federal Campaign (CFC), make sure you designate PDF as your charity of choice by using the code number 0557.

Some corporations may also offer a matching gift program, which means that your gift to PDF may be doubled (or in a few cases, even tripled!) by your company. Find out if your employer operates such a matching gift program and help PDF raise much-needed funds.

Raising funds for PDF
One measure of the increasing strength and effectiveness of the Parkinson's community is found in the growing numbers of individuals who have decided to take the reins and organize fundraisers of their own. From walk-a-thons to bake sales to yacht club dinners, people across the US have organized events to increase awareness of Parkinson's while supporting PDF's valuable programs. We often hear from event organizers that the process is empowering to them - besides being helpful in their communities, which may not be aware of the impact of Parkinson's disease.

To guide you in your fundraising ventures, we have developed a "Fundraising Packet" that answers questions you may have about hosting your own event to benefit PDF. You can access this via our website,, or by calling the PDF offices. Our staff is happy to answer any questions you may have; feel free to call or email us!

Explore planned giving
Planned giving opportunities - that is, making a gift in a form other than a current donation of cash or securities - is a way of organizing your finances so as to support PDF in the near or far future. Some of these are "gifts that give back," providing immediate tax benefits while at the same time conferring advantages that can range from guaranteeing income for life to providing reliable, tax-protected ways of transferring wealth to your children or grandchildren.

If you are interested in making a planned gift to PDF, call our office to speak with Eddie Pelto, Director of Development, and request a copy of our publication, Giving With Common Sense: A Guide to Planned Giving Opportunities. This booklet will help you understand your options for planned giving and how you can support Parkinson's research and help those who live with Parkinson'sÖwhile protecting your assets, your income and the needs of your family.

The bottom line
As always, we are delighted to accept contributions through mail, email or via the PDF website. Remember that no matter how you choose to give, we are happy to discuss it with you beforehand and answer any questions that you may have. This is especially important if you intend to make a gift of stock, or to set up a trust or to purchase an annuity. Our aim is to make the process as smooth and easy as possible for the donor.
