Kunreuther Bike Trip
- Aug 16 2001
Late last year, Howard Kunreuther got the idea to honor the memory of his parents in a very special way: by doing a fundraiser for Parkinsonís disease, a condition that had affected his late father for many years. Since he and grown childrenóJoel and Lauraóare avid cyclists, they decided to do this by staging a 500-mile bike trip from their home in Philadelphia to the rustic hills of Vermont. Friends, relatives and colleagues (at the University of Pennsylvania where he is a professor at the Wharton School) would be invited to contribute to the Richard and Bobbie Kunreuther Memorial Fund. Its purpose: to support research to find the cause and cure for Parkinsonís disease.
Braving a record-breaking heat wave, the Kunreuther family embarked on their 2-week bike trip from Philadelphia, PA to Lake Dunmore, VT last Tuesday (August 7). The adventurers plan to arrive at their destination by Saturday, August 18. Fortunately, their spirits were higher than the record-breaking temperatures they experienced their first few days out. When they left on Tuesday morning the temperature was already in the 80ís and gearing up to the predicted 92-degree temperature for that day. Little did they know how lucky they were to have started Tuesday. By Wednesday, they were biking in record setting 103-degree temperatures!
At the time of this posting, the team is in New York State and is grateful for the break in the weather. There will be postings from time to time and the Kunreuthers are sending e-updates (with pictures!) to those who have donated and wish to be kept informed. If you would like to contribute to the Richard and Bobbie Kunreuther Memorial Fund, designated for Parkinsonís research, you may click on the ďGiving OnlineĒ section on the left-hand margin of the main menu to make a donation on-line (be sure to designate in the comment section that the gift is for the Richard and Bobbie Kunreuther Memorial Fund) or send your gift to the Parkinsonís Disease Foundation, 710 West 168th Street, New York, NY 10032.
Iím sure you will join us in cheering the Kunreuther family on towards their goal and Parkinsonís research toward its goal of finding a cause and cure for Parkinsonís. Best wishes to us all.
