Peggy Willocks

Johnson City, TN

Ms. Willocks is a former elementary school principal and 1997 Tennessee Principal of the Year.

She was diagnosed with Parkinson's at the age of 44. In 2000, Ms. Willocks joined the Parkinson's Action Network (PAN), where she served as Tennessee State Coordinator for nearly a decade. In 2003, she received the Louis Fishman Advocacy Award for state advocacy and in 2005, the Milly Kondracke Award for outstanding advocacy at the national level. She also served two years on PAN’s Board of Directors. She is a charter member of the Parkinson Pipeline Project. She has made speeches and presentations, and has published numerous articles at the local, state, national and international levels on clinical trial awareness. She attended the Third World Parkinson Congress (WPC) in 2013 in Montreal, Canada. A WPC veteran, she presented at the WPC 2006, serving on its Creativity Subcommittee and attended the WPC 2010 in Scotland, serving on the Quilt Committee.

Ms. Willocks was also featured in the first “National AWARE for All” video webcast sponsored by the Center for Information and Study on Clinical Research Participation (CISCRP). Locally, she has worked for a number of years with the Northeast Tennessee Parkinson’s Support Group in Johnson City and serves on the board of the first Tennessee Area Agency on Aging & Disability.  She is a member of the Parkinson’s Creative Collective that is working on a book about living with Parkinson’s. She also wrote PDF’s fact sheet, Traveling with Parkinson's and is featured in PDF’s Diagnosis Parkinson’s: You Are Not Alone educational booklet and DVD.

A member of First Christian Church in Johnson City, Ms. Willocks actively participates as a part-time Sunday school teacher and was recognized as a 2008 Leader in Christian Service by Milligan College.

Ms. Willocks received both a Bachelor of Arts and a Master of Arts in Education from East Tennessee State University. She also has a certificate in medical transcription.
