Dr. Dong is currently a postdoctoral researcher in computational biophysics at Florida State University.
Dr. Dong became involved in the fight against Parkinson’s disease when his mother was diagnosed one year ago. Using his knowledge of chemistry and biophysics, Dr. Dong works to understand the fundamental questions about neurodegenerative disorders, such as Parkinson's disease, with computational methods. For instance, he recently presented a study at the 55th annual meeting of the Biophysical Society in Baltimore, MD, that focused on the functional mechanism of a neurotransmitter receptor in the central nervous system at the atomic level, which may serve as a guide for the design of pharmacological agents.
Due to his own experience seeking information about Parkinson’s, Dr. Dong became interested in patient education, believing that up-to-date information can empower people with Parkinson’s and care partners. Noticing a gap in such information for Chinese speakers, he has created a website where he provides Chinese translations of Parkinson’s news.
Dr. Dong also participates in the language conversation partner program at his local library and is a member of the Friends of Internationals at Florida State University.
Dr. Dong received his doctorate in physical chemistry from Nanjing University.
