Q:My father has had Parkinson's Disease for the last 15 years approx. He recently wakes up at night and can't breathe. He goes purple in the face and struggles for breath for quite some time before his breath comes back. This is now also happening when he's awake, and happens approximately one to two times a day. It's very frightening for my mother who can do nothing only watch him struggle. His GP listened to his lungs and said they were clear, but suggested it might be a reaction to his medication. Surely if it was a reaction it would have showed itself before now? Have you any suggestions please? (anonymous)Show Answer

Q:I've been on Mirapex for a few months (1.5 mg 3 times a day, last dose at 5:30 PM), in addition to Sinemet. I don't have trouble falling asleep at night, but I wake up after 4-6 hours and can't fall asleep again. I know insomnia is a side effect of Mirapex, but it's hard to believe it could keep me awake 10 hours or so after the last pill. Does this sound like a side effect to you, or might it be a new symptom of PD? (DM)Show Answer
