Q:My 82-year-old Mother who was very active, recently suffered aShow Answer
heart attack (on January 2,2000). She had an angioplasty stent implant and is
on medications. She is also a diabetic with blood pressure problems. Weighing 130 lbs and being 5ft tall she is not overweight (although) she was overweight before.
One month ago while on 6.5mg of nitroglycerin, Lanoxin, plavix, Coumadin, atenolol, glucotrol and Glucophage, Zoloft and Ecotrin., (she was just taken off (3-1-00) the Lanoxin, Coumodin, Plavix and reduced to 2.5mg of Nitroglycerin) she had begun to experience hand tremors while on all these drugs and had stumbled while walking. There have been signs of some confusion as well. I am her daughter; I live with and take care of her. My question is: Her
cardiologist suggested I take her to a neurologist because he suspects she has Parkinson's! As we have no family history of this disease I wonder if the heart attack brought it on or perhaps it may be something else? (JM)

Q:I have recently found out that my Dad has been diagnosed with PD and also after being free for ten years of pancreatic cancer it has returned. My Dad is in his middle eighties and is not responding well to his cancer treatments. How quickly does this disease progress? How does the cancer and treatments affect the PD and PD the cancer and treatments. Thank you for any answers you can possibly give me. (MT)Show Answer

Q:My friend has had Parkinson’s disease for several years and he is also an alcoholic. Did his drinking cause his Parkinson’s? He also seems to be falling a lot now. Is that due to PD or the alcohol?Show Answer
