Q:My Mother, aged 77, was diagnosed with PD about six years ago. She has mostly responded well to medication but I know that this will not be forever. I understand there is an operation that has been found to be quite successful for some patients. Could you explain the operation and for what type of patient it is recommended. Also, I am just curious about the advances there have been made vis a vis understanding the disease and treatment developments. Also, has the gene for Parkinson's been isolated? Is there testing and anything that can be done to avert an onset?Show Answer

Q:Hello,Show Answer
I have suffered with Parkinson's disease for approx 5 years now, I am 38.
I visited my consultant today and we discussed possible surgery as we are having little success with any medication. Could you answer a question I have. I understand that the power supply to the deep brain stimulators is of low voltage, some 2 or 3 volts, what effects, in terms of interference, do high voltage power systems have, to be more specific Power Station Transformers, Static Frequency Converters and Generators?
If I decide to opt for surgery, would I have problems with working around these items?
