Q:My sister was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease 3 years ago. About one year ago she began to have severe sharp pain in her left shoulder which would travel down to her left leg. It happens 3 times a day and lasts about 2 to 3 hours. None of the pain medication helps her pain. I have heard of tremor symptoms but not of pain being part of PD. Is pain part of the PD symptoms? Q:Parkinson's presented itself in the left side of my body. The muscles in my hand, arm, and shoulder seem weak and are easily irritated to the point of pain by normal movement (e.g; household chores and yard work). X-rays and MRI were negative. Can the neuro-based PD be causing this pain and weakness? If yes, what are treatment options to strengthen muscles and control pain?Show Answer

Q:My 79-year-old mom has Parkinson's disease and sciatica. Between the Parkinson's and the sciatica, she has difficulty getting comfortable in bed. She often sleeps in her recliner, slumped over, in a position that looks very uncomfortable! Does that position (sitting slumped with your neck falling towards your chest) make sciatica worse? Can you offer any insight to proper positioning and alignment when one has Parkinson's and sciatica? (JT)Show Answer
