Q:My mother and uncle were both (within the past month) diagnosed with Parkinson's disease (PD), and my grandfather, who passed away this year also had PD. I am just a college student myself and lack the funds to donate my own money for PD research. However, I would though like to contribute in some way. had PD for about 10 years. She also is suspected to have Lewy Body Dementia and is in a nursing home. She can't sleep at night (partially due to painful legs & to urinate). Sleeping pills don't help. They've tried Seroquel others. She sleeps a few hours early on in the night and then is awake the rest of the time. Is there anything else besides the obvious (avoid caffeine, drinking in the evening) that we could try? She also has “wearing off” periods with an inability to walk, pain in legs, says she feels like she "wants to run away", pounds her fists, and cries. She takes Sinemet every 3 hours. Can anything else be done to improve these wearing off periods?
