Q:My Mother, aged 77, was diagnosed with PD about six years ago. She has mostly responded well to medication but I know that this will not be forever. I understand there is an operation that has been found to be quite successful for some patients. Could you explain the operation and for what type of patient it is recommended. Also, I am just curious about the advances there have been made vis a vis understanding the disease and treatment developments. Also, has the gene for Parkinson's been isolated?
