Sample PD SELF Curriculum

PD SELF is a nine-module program that helps people newly diagnosed with Parkinson’s master the management of their disease and the best quality of life. It provides the motivation, information, skills, behaviors and philosophical construct to achieve these goals.

Attendees will be provided with a PD SELF Curriculum Field Guide containing the curriculum content for each of the nine modules. 

Parkinson’s Content of Each Module:

  3. Medications and Treatments
  4. PT and Exercise
  5. Nonmotor Symptoms
  6. Integrative Medicine
  7. Neuroplasticity

Self-Efficacy: PD SELF is designed so that as a person with PD advances through the modules, they are gradually introduced to self-efficacy. Over the nine modules, they learn how to use the four modes of self-efficacy development to master their own relationship to Parkinson’s and assist others. The skills and behaviors learned include:

  • Self-monitoring
  • Keeping health care records
  • Communicating with your doctor
  • Establishing new routines
  • Overcoming obstacles
  • Problem solving
  • Reframing
  • Managing negative emotions
  • Realistic optimism

Field Guide: The Field Guide provides a format for each session and for the program as a whole, which typically includes:

  • Resources, such as videos & webinars
  • References
