Congress Supports Funding for NIH Biomedical Research!
- Dec 19 2011
The Parkinson's Disease Foundation (PDF) has received another important update from the Parkinson’s Action Network (PAN) about funding for the National Institutes of Health (NIH).
This afternoon, the House of Representatives passed a year-end spending bill which provides 2012 funding for federal agencies including the National Institutes of Health (NIH). The bill has been sent to the Senate and is expected to pass and be signed by the president later this evening. The final bill reflects some hard-won victories for the Parkinson’s community. Included is $576 million for the National Center for Advancing Translational Science (NCATS), of which up to $10 million is for implementing the Cures Acceleration Network.
In this challenging economic climate, this support for biomedical research, that will help to move high-need medical therapies and cures through the developmental pipeline faster, is remarkable.
For months, PAN advocates have worked tirelessly to keep steady pressure on Congress regarding the FY 2012 budget, and from our seat in Washington, it appears that your efforts have made a significant difference. We will keep you apprised of future developments.
PAN is the voice of the Parkinson's community in Washington, DC. In 2011, PDF is supporting PAN with a grant of $200,000.
