Join PDF for the 2009 Parkinson's Unity Walk on April 25!
- Jan 29 2009
On April 25, 2009, the Parkinson’s disease (PD) community will assemble in New York City’s Central Park for the 15th Annual Parkinson’s Unity Walk (PUW). The money raised for this year’s walk, as always, will benefit research programs at several national Parkinson’s organizations, including the Parkinson’s Disease Foundation (PDF).
This year, we invite you to register with your own team or to join PDF’s team – the PDF Pacers! Last year, the PDF Pacers contributed $5,000 to the over $1.8 million the Unity Walk raised for Parkinson’s research. This year our goal is $10,000! By joining PDF’s team, you can walk with our staff, board, People with Parkinson’s Advisory Council and other friends, contribute to our team fundraising goal and receive a PDF Unity Walk t-shirt.
The walk serves as an inspirational event for the PD community, bringing together families and friends affected by PD. It also features informational booths, such as Ask the Doctor, for those with questions about Parkinson’s as well as one for PDtrials, where representatives share information about the latest clinical trials.
At this year's walk, the Alan Bonander Humanitarian Award, given to an individual in recognition of their exemplary contribution to the Parkinson's community, will be presented to John Ball of Whittier, CA. Through Mr. Ball’s leadership of Team Parkinson, a group dedicated to running marathons to fundraise for Parkinson's research, he has helped to raise over $1.5 million for Parkinson’s research.
If you are interested in walking, please visit the Parkinson’s Unity Walk site to register, create a personalized individual or team donation page, set fundraising goals, volunteer, and invite family, friends and co-workers to donate, and track their progress.
If you are interested in joining PDF’s team, please visit the Unity Walk site and search for PDF or call PDF at (800) 457-6676 and we can help you register.
