Parkinsonís Disease Foundation Announces Innovative Online Education Series

The Parkinson’s Disease Foundation® (PDF®) is pleased to announce its newest series of PD ExpertBriefings, free interactive educational seminars designed for people living with Parkinson’s, family members and health care professionals.  The series of six seminars – available by phone or online – begin on Tuesday, September 27, 2011, and run through June 2012, addressing topics voted upon by the community as important to Parkinson’s disease management.

PDF first launched PD ExpertBriefings to ensure that people touched by Parkinson’s have access to the most up-to-date information directly from leaders in research and care.  After 7,000 individuals joined one or more of last year’s PD ExpertBriefings, PDF asked the community to vote on the topics most important to their quality of life with Parkinson’s.  Among those selected by voters were anxiety and depression, medication management and issues related to driving.

The PD ExpertBriefing faculty includes Parkinson’s specialists such as Daniel Weintraub, M.D., of the University of Pennsylvania, in Philadelphia, PA, who on Tuesday, September 27 at 1 PM ET will lead the first PD ExpertBriefing discussing side effects, called compulsive and impulsive behaviors, caused by certain Parkinson’s medications.

PDF Executive Director, Robin Elliott, commented, “As a community, we must do all we can to provide information that can impact the lives of people touched by Parkinson’s right now.  We hope that everyone whose life is touched by Parkinson’s will consider joining PDF and our outstanding faculty for these six seminars.”

Ann Wasson, Co-Chair of PDF’s People with Parkinson’s Advisory Council, added, “PD ExpertBriefings provide the Parkinson’s community with easy access to top doctors and researchers and allow participants to join in with questions and comments of their own.  This combination of knowledge and access provides a true exchange between people with Parkinson’s and professionals.”

To join a PD ExpertBriefing, call (800) 457-6676, visit www.pdf.org or email info@pdf.org. Pre-registration is recommended.  Phone participants will receive an event-specific number which differs from the one above.
