String Quartet, Poet To Perform in Rye For Parkinson's Fundraiser

An internationally acclaimed string quartet and an award winning poet will highlight the Rye concert for Parkinson's disease research in December.

The 11th annual Music for Parkinson’s Research concert is set for 3:30 PM, Dec. 8, at the Dunn Performing Arts Center, Rye Country Day School in Rye, according to a press release. Proceeds from the concert benefit the research programs of the Parkinson’s Disease Foundation (PDF), according to the release.

"Westchester County residents can fuel their passion for the arts and make a difference in the fight against Parkinson’s disease by enjoying an afternoon of chamber music and poetry," representatives said in the release. "In addition to its focus on chamber music, the concert will feature a poetry reading by award winning poet and best-selling author Robin Morgan, who will read a selection from 'The Grey Matter Suite' from her new in-progress book of poems, 'Dark Matter.'"

Music for Parkinson’s Research, a local volunteer group co-founded by David Eger of White Plains, organizes the event each year, according to the release. The Attacca Quartet, Chappaqua clarinetist John Stine and pianist Gena Raps are returning this year, according to the release.

“Music for Parkinson’s Research does a wonderful service to the community year after year by bringing together guests to share their love of the arts, while helping PDF to fund the most promising research to find a cure,” said PDF President Robin Elliott in the release.

The concert hosts more than 100 guests each year and the concerts have raised more than $400,000 for Parkinson’s research since 2003, according to the release.
