Cattaraugus County Resident Hosts "Fight Against Parkinson's" Golf Tournament August 10
- Aug 06 2013
Yorkshire resident Robert Krawczyk is asking his community to take a swing at Parkinson's disease. He is hosting the "Fight Against Parkinson's" golf tournament to benefit the Parkinson's Disease Foundation (PDF) on Saturday, Aug. 10 with a shotgun start at 8:30 AM at the Rolling Hills Golf Course in Chaffee.
Krawczyk, 66, is retired from a career in the credit industry. After Krawczyk was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease two years ago, a disease for which there is no cure, he was driven to get involved in the cause. He organized his first fundraising event around his love of golf.
"I never expected to be diagnosed with Parkinson's," Krawczyk said. "I'm hosting this tournament to bring awareness to Parkinson's and how debilitating this disease is and hopefully to fund research that will find out what causes it."
Working with the PDF Champions program, the grassroots fundraising arm of the Parkinson's Disease Foundation, Krawczyk expects to welcome more than 30 golfers to help reach his $1,000 fundraising goal. The golf outing, which he hopes will grow into an annual event, will feature nine holes of golf, a raffle with gift baskets and certificates to local businesses, prizes and a buffet dinner.
PDF President Robin Elliott said, "We are grateful for PDF Champions like Mr. Krawczyk who are dedicated to funding the most promising research and raising awareness about the impact of Parkinson's. His efforts to help PDF improve the lives and futures of the nearly one million people across the country living with Parkinson's are inspiring."
