Kristin Ford, a neuroscience student at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB), has been awarded a Summer Student Fellowship from the Parkinson's Disease Foundation (PDF). The program supports and cultivates students interested in Parkinson's related research projects. The summer fellowships typically consist of 10 weeks of clinical or laboratory work supervised by an expert in the field, with an award of $4,000 to support their research.

Ford, with mentor Amy Amara, M.D., Ph.D., an assistant professor in the UAB Department of Neurology, will work on a project entitled, "A Novel Evaluation of Daytime Vigilance in Individuals with Parkinson's Disease Using a Virtual Reality Street Crossing Task."
