Parkinson's Disease Foundation (PDF), a national nonprofit dedicated to Parkinson's disease research, education and advocacy, has been hosting a series of free, interactive online and phone seminars. These PD ExpertBriefings offer access to prominent personalities in Parkinson's disease care and research. Since its founding in 1957, PDF has invested more than $136 million in research, education and advocacy programs.
"Coping Skills for Parkinson's Care Partners" is the series planned for the month of November. With one million Americans living with Parkinson's disease, it is the caregivers and families who are constantly involved in day-to-day caregiving activities such as coordinating doctor visits and managing financial matters. Since November is National Family Caregivers month, the series will focus on practical ways care partners and family members of those battling Parkinson's can recognize and reduce stress.
The series will be led by Julie H. Carter R.N., M.S., A.N.P., Professor of Neurology at Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU). Scheduled on November 20th, 2012 (Tuesday) between 1:00pm - 2:00pm EST, series participation is possible via phone with a toll-free number. Participants can also watch and listen online, through PDF's website. Pre-registration is recommended. Online viewers will be able to ask questions directly to Ms. Carter during the second half of the seminar.
In addition, continuing education credits are available for health care professionals who participate live or within 30 days of any live PD ExpertBriefing via PDF's sponsorship of the American Society on Aging.
