Essay:
It started when someone asked me why I held my arm so close to my side, as if the universe had winged me with a small weapon while I wasn't looking. The MRI was silent, but the death of a distant uncle cried out loudly that inheritance has its shadow. Two months after I was diagnosed, my wife was pregnant with our son Julian. This poem was born out of trying to reconcile these related events.
