How can you get involved in the PD community?
Whether it’s by sharing your personal story about a PD diagnosis, letting others know about your local educational event, displaying your works of creativity or raising funds to find cure for Parkinson’s – there are many ways you can connect. Here are a few ways to start:
Be Resourceful: Living with PD, you may need to find a movement disorder center, want assistance with your health insurance, or be looking for information specific to young-onset Parkinson’s. Browse our searchable Resource List, listing over 650 resources around the world, or tell the community about the best resources in your neighborhood.
Share Your Story…and Read Others: Read personal stories from other people living with PD and share your own experiences about diagnosis, community involvement and more.
Get Creative: Browse works of art made by over 240 people with Parkinson’s or submit your own, through our Creativity and Parkinson’s Project. We welcome all creative works – painting, drawing, dancing, singing, jewelry, music and more.
Connect with your Local Community: There are educational and social PD events being held all over the country. Search our event calendar and submit information about events in your area. If you would like to find a support group in your area, you can also call PDF at (800) 457-6676 to help you find one.
Join the PDF Online Community: PDF is now on social networking sites like Facebook, where you can keep up-to-date on our programs and show your support of the cause. If you're not already, you can also Join our Mailing List, so you can receive monthly updates about Parkinson's science and community news.
Quilt for Parkinson's: Become a part of the Parkinson's Quilt Project, the first global quilt project to focus the world's attention on the nearly one million people in the US and more than 4.1 million people worldwide living with Parkinson's. Make a quilt panel – about your life with Parkinson’s or in honor of a loved one living with PD – or support a friend in their quilting efforts! The Quilt will be displayed for the first time at the 2nd World Parkinson Congress in Glasgow, Scotland in September 2010.
Raise Awareness for Parkinson's Awareness Month - April 2010! Each year, April is designated as Parkinson’s Awareness Month. Using PDF’s Parkinson’s Disease Awareness Month toolkit, you can help to make an impact in April!
