Charitable Lead Trust

The Charitable Lead Trust is an excellent vehicle for philanthropic individuals who do not need current income from high-yielding assets but wish to pass them to their family at some future time. This is a wonderful kind of gift for PDF, because it gives us the opportunity to use the income now for research and our many initiatives to serve the Parkinson’s community.

Usually, the way the lead trust works is that you transfer assets to a trust for a fixed number of years. During that time, payments from the trust support the Parkinson’s Disease Foundation’s mission. At the end of the trust’s term, whatever remains in the trust will be distributed to your heirs, and the gift or estate taxes are substantially reduced or eliminated. In most cases, the assets are placed in a trust for fifteen years or longer. The lead trust is most often in the form of an annuity trust, paying PDF a fixed dollar amount.
